Exciting New AI Tools and Apps Announced by Adobe

From October 14-16, Adobe MAX 2024 brought exciting announcements across its suite of creative software, including groundbreaking advancements in AI tools, video editing, and design features. Here's a quick rundown of the key updates I took notes on and I will be going more in depth in the coming weeks:

AI and Ethical Training

Adobe emphasized that their AI models are trained responsibly. They ensure they only use content they have rights to and compensate artists whose work contributes to training. Customer data and internet-scraped content are not part of their AI’s training. I LOVE

Firefly Video Model

Adobe launched Firefly Video, the first AI video model designed for commercial use. It's only trained on content they have the right to use. It supports:

• Text-to-video: Generate B-roll and visual effects with simple prompts.
• Image-to-video: Turn static images into dynamic videos with your prompts.
• Firefly Image Model 4: Improved image generation capabilities.

Photoshop Enhancements

Photoshop saw major updates that streamline workflow:

• One-click distraction removal: Easily erase wires, cables, or people.
• Adjustment presets: Fast color grading with a single click.
• Generative workspace: Access past AI generations directly within Photoshop. Add photos for style or composition reference and variables so it generates more options all in one click.
• Adjustment brush: Apply adjustments selectively on specific areas.
• Enhanced generative fill for more detailed image refinements and generative expand even for video (convert those horizontal videos to vertical for reels and stories!)

Illustrator Innovations

New Illustrator features include:

• 5x faster linked images and automatic relinking of missing files.
• Objects on path: Auto-place and align objects and grouped objects on any path.
• Generate shape fills fills shapes with options based on a sample of pattern in the artwork so it will coordinate, can also create from a text prompt and samples your artwork style so it will match.
• Enhanced image trace: Smoother raster images into vectors with gradient options.
• Isolation mode; you can select an object with a gradient and it will select all of the gradient for live editing.
• Project Neo: A web-based 3D generator that exports vector files directly into Illustrator.

Premiere Pro Updates

Video creators will love Premiere Pro’s improvements:

• Text-based editing and removal of filler words.
• Enhanced audio management and faster export speeds.
• Generative extend: Expand the length of or smooth out video and audio clips.
• Object selection and masking for seamless video overlays or recoloring.

Adobe Express

Adobe Express now supports:

• One-click animation for all layers.
• Background removal in video and new resize with expand functionality to create other sized assets.
• Access to over 15,000 sound effects from Adobe Stock.
• Apply your brand colors, fonts and style to any of the Adobe Express templates.

Lightroom Advances

Lightroom added new features for photographers:

• Adaptive presets with non-destructive masking.
• Direct share to Instagram and real-time video adjustments.
• Integration with Frame.io for instant photo uploads from certain camera models, enabling seamless camera-to-cloud workflows.
• Quick actions analyze the photo and offers suggestions of what you might want to edit.
• Background selection to adjust the background.
• With the generative remove tool you can now pick your favorite result on phone app.

Firefly 4 and Project Concept

Coming soon, Firefly 4 will introduce Project Concept, a collaborative mood board app with AI-powered ideation. It includes:

Fast mode to test ideas quickly.

• Generate directly in the app from Firefly.
• Fast mode feature helps you bounce through ideas before finalizing.
• Upscaling provides high res images.
• Generative history shows previous ideas you generated.
• Can add region prompt and it generates an image with the focus or object you want a particular area of the photo.
• Use Composition reference and select an image for composition, another for style and another for background and it generates options for you.
• Remix feature for generating new images from multiple inputs.
