Change Your Morning Routine

The First Morning It Feels Right

There is a point every year when I move my work outside. Not because I planned to, but because one morning it finally feels right.

The door opens, the air is warm without being heavy, and after time in my studio, I bring my coffee out to the porch and stay there.

A Different Way to Start the Day

After a long winter and a slow spring, mornings like this feel new again.

The light is softer early in the day. The neighborhood is quieter. You notice things you do not hear for months. Birds, a breeze through the trees, someone else starting their day down the street.

Max is always the first to fully embrace it. The second I open the door, he is ready. Settling in like he has been waiting for this exact moment all winter. Happy to be outside, keeping me company, watching everything that moves. It becomes our routine again without much effort.

Work Feels Different

I call it my porch office, and it changes how I work more than I expect it to.

I am so much more productive out here in the sunshine, warmth, and breeze.

I am more focused. I move through my work faster. Things that feel like they might take all afternoon inside somehow get done in a couple of hours.

It is not forced. It just feels easier. Ideas flow.

Even the work itself feels different. The light is better. Colors feel a little brighter. There is more movement, more air, more space. I get some much more accomplished!

Changing the Routine

I always think I will slow down once I move outside, but the opposite happens. I get more done. Emails, planning, small tasks that usually drag on during the colder months all feel lighter. Like they take less effort to move through.

Maybe it is the light. Maybe it is just being outside after so many months in. Whatever it is, I notice it every year.

What I like about this shift is that I did not have to change my whole routine to get a different result. I still start the same way. I still do the same work. I just move part of it somewhere else. If you are feeling stuck in your own routine, especially after a long winter, this might be something to try.

Not a full reset. Just a small change.

Take your laptop outside. Work near an open window. Move to a different room for part of the day. Change the environment, even if the work stays the same. Sometimes that is enough to shift your energy.
