How to Make Chunky Homemade Applesauce - Tandem For Two

How to Make Chunky Homemade Applesauce

My family picks own our apples each year and we make applesauce! We always pick a variety and I use a mixture of all kinds. Some apples cook down more than others (MacIntosh, Jonagold, Gala and Empire) and some stay firmer (Granny Smith, Fuji, Mutsu, Red Delicious and Northern Spy) and I love to have both in my chunky homemade applesauce. Here's my recipe:

Chunky Homemade Applesauce

  • 4-6 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
(Super easy with my apple-peeler-corer-slicer! Yes that really is the name and it makes quick work of the apples so I can just make a batch for a meal)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

In a saucepan, combine the apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Then mash them slightly as you stir with a wooden spoon and serve warm with dinner. You can increase your quantities and jar it up for the winter too! Or print our cute mason jar labels and give them as gifts!
