On the west side of Lake Michigan, one entire county is a peninsula full of woods and sandy beaches, caves and cliffs, wineries and orchards, art galleries and boutiques, lighthouses and winding roads. This special place is Door County in Wisconsin and it is full of so many wonderful things to see and do, that you will be sure to want to spend time here.

My most favorite place to sit and relax is our front porch. For some it is their patio, but slowing down and enjoying summer with a cocktail with some fresh fruit picked from my garden while swinging on my porch swing is a great place to be.

I am known for my porch parties or inviting people to come up and relax on our porch with a cocktail that Iuckily whip up. Classic margaritas and Raspberry Moscow Mules are my signature drinks, and once you figure out a drink you love and can make any time, then you’ll be ready to host those impromptu evenings or plan ahead and create a memorable evening.

There is a place in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that has a special place in the hearts of my family. We rent cottages in a row along a little jut of land that is perched on the shores of Lake Huron. I’ve been coming up since I was in high school and our kids have grown up coming here too.

There is a lake that lies not far from Minneapolis that is well-loved by Minnesotans and visitors alike. Lake Minnetonka, or “great water” from it’s Dakota Sioux name, is the perfect place to spend your days soaking up the sun and enjoying the best of summer.

Entertaining can seem like such a big deal or daunting task. When you keep things on hand, you can decide at the last minute to invite friends over for dinner. Whether you are grilling or ordering pizza, you won’t be stressed and will enjoy gathering people together when you have my favorite things ready!

Besides something fun to say, a swizzle stick is a small stick used to stir mixed drinks! Originally swizzle sticks were created in the 18th century at a rum plantation in the West Indies.

Growing up, summer was my least favorite season. It’s hard to believe, but when you live in the suburbs with no beach or pool nearby, only your banana seat bike to get you around the neighborhood and mostly boys to hang out with, I would escape to our air conditioned living room with a pile of books to read as I laid on the couch.
